Music affects us. Scientists have learned that music and mood are directly linked. We're learning that the music we listen to affects our psychology and perception. So this tells me I can dial up a mood or even a perception in choosing music that inspires a particular emotional response in me.

In this workshop, we explore using music and mindfulness as motivation. We practice intentional listening; choosing music as a way to choose the way we act and interact in the world. For example, every Fall, I listen to certain music I have associated with this season. I do this because this specific music helps me live with the emotions that come up around this time of year (read: new learning/school, returning to work after a long Summer, a change in the weather, the start of new projects, etc). Music motivates me to see things clearly and feel all the feelings, so that I'm not ignoring what's going on. I find this translates beyond me, and the more I'm intentionally listening to my body and mind, the more natural it feels to listen to my friends, family, community, and beyond.

The workshop includes listening to music, mindfulness practice, talks, and group discussion. Suitable for all levels of experience.

Do you have an “Inner Critic” a.k.a the voice in your head that’s always judging you... If you’re like me, you’ve got an “Inner Committee''! In my mind, the more I ignore this, the louder their voices become.

So, what would it be like to make friends with the Inner Committee?

In this workshop, we’ll explore offering the Committee space.  We’ll try listening to each unique voice that shows up e.g. the one that lacks trust, the one that’s a perfectionist, the one that’s generous, the one that’s fearful, etc, and we’ll try using sound and music as a way to get to know The Inner Committee with a sense of creativity and compassion.

What does The Inner Committee sound like? What do the sounds feel like in the body? What might be needed now?

Self Care As Community Care

Caring for others is fueled by the capacity to care for ourselves. The experience of nurturing and being compassionate to ourselves, and knowing what that looks and feels like, informs and affects how we show up in community. Self care, which can bring up reactions of shame, guilt, or unworthiness, can actually be a powerful act of resourcing ourselves so that we can resource our communities in a way that comes from a place of abundance and is aligned with our intentions.

In this interactive workshop, we explore how meditation practice and herbalism are powerful resources to nourish our intentions for self care and community care. The workshop includes talks, group discussion, meditation practice, and a herbal medicine demo. Suitable for all levels of experience.
